If so, we'd love to hear from you!The Office of Child Welfare is seeking a child protective services caseworker to join our team in Hermiston.
We are a tight-knit team within a small branch, and we work hard to support each other.
We are seeking a candidate with strong critical thinking skills who is organized, open-minded, and inquisitive.
In this role, you will assess alleged child abuse or neglect through fact-finding interviews to determine if a child has been or is at risk of being harmed.
You will determine appropriate child placement if necessary and take action to reduce risk to the child by providing emergency and crisis intervention.

What you will be doing:
Responding to allegations of alleged child abuse and neglect.
Conducting fact-finding interviews using engagement skills with children, parents, and other parties.
Observing home environments.
Making determinations about whether abuse or neglect has occurred and taking protective measures when appropriate.
After gathering all available information through interviews, documents and observations, using critical thinking to determine safety decisions and outcomes regarding the children you are assessing.
Arranging medical evaluations and substitute care placement of children.
Attending court hearings and meetings related to child protective services assessments.
Fulfilling various documentation requirements.
Working conditions:
Employee's work may be conducted in offices, participant's homes, and other community sites.
This position will require you to work a professional work week where the hours of work fluctuate on a daily and weekly basis.
The opportunity to telecommute is available up to one day per week.
Work occurs mainly between the hours of 8 a.
m.
and 5 p.
m.
, but paid overtime is often required.
You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma, exhibit challenges in controlling their anger, or other unexpected emotions impacted by drug use, cognitive impairments, or other factors.
You may walk into stressful situations that require quick decision-making skills to ensure the safety of those being serviced and own physical safety.
This may also be trauma inducing.
What you need to qualify:
A bachelor's degree in human services or a field related to human services.
ORA bachelor's degree unrelated to human services, and either:
1) One year of human services-related experience, OR2) Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon caseworker competency.
ORAn associate degree and either:
1) Two years of human services-related experience, OR2) One year of human services-related experience and related training, coursework or certification consistent with Oregon caseworker competency.
A valid Oregon driver license and acceptable driving record are necessary for this position.

Experience providing services and resources to children and families while working or volunteering in a social services-related field.
Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to engage with a variety of people by being open-minded and inquisitive.
Experience using sound judgement to come up with successful solutions to problems.
Experience using a strength-based perspective when working with others who exhibit challenges.
Experience successfully facilitating change.
Ability to stay organized and manage details while adapting to ever-changing schedules and circumstances.
Demonstrated knowledge about crisis intervention, conflict resolution, behavior management, and the impact of trauma.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
